Whilst conceived as solo keyboard pieces the Two Part Inventions work really well when played as ensemble pieces and this particular work can be played successfully by a number of different instrument combinations. Whilst excellent training pieces the musical content does require players to have a secure and competent technique. Whilst the realisations have a tempo of 72 quarter note (crotchet) beats to the minute the movement can be performed at tempi both faster and slower than this.
